Rather, contracting and credentialing are part of an overall business strategy of maximizing available revenue for a center. In addition to sharing overall payer trends, Stern and Mattingly will provide actionable advice for evaluating fee schedules, weighing the pros and cons of participation in various emerging plans, and illustrate checklists needed to assure all bases are covered.
Alan Ayers, PV’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, will be presenting on “Differentiation: Achieving Long-term Success in Crowded Markets.” As urgent care centers face increased competition from walk-in primary care, freestanding emergency centers, retail host clinics, and telemedicine, urgent care centers will have to provide a better patient experience than other options. Following the example of major retailers who have differentiated their product and service offerings to survive and thrive in hyper-competitive consumer markets, urgent care centers wanting to cultivate long-term patient loyalty need to define their unique value proposition to consumers.
Additionally, Ayers will be speaking on “The One Metric for Cultivating Patient Loyalty and Spurring Word-of-Mouth.” In order to bring about change and meet patient expectations better than competitors, a feedback and measurement system is needed. Ayers will explain how the “ultimate question” enables Net Promoter Score, a measure that urgent care operators can use to assess and improve their center’s performance. Ayers has over 12 years’ experience in urgent care operations, site development, business strategy and mergers/acquisitions. In addition to serving UCAOA for nine years as a board adviser and director, as Practice Management Editor of The Journal of Urgent Care Medicine he has contributed nearly 450 original articles and presentations on the subject of urgent care, is frequently cited as an expert by the national media, and is a sought-after consultant to hospitals and health systems.
Bonnie Peterson, RN, Vice President of Consulting, will be speaking on urgent care start-ups and integrating occupational medicine. Bonnie will provide valuable insights to site selection and build-out, contracting and credentialing, marketing and operations to assure your new urgent care venture will be a success. She will also speak about how workers compensation injury care, pre-employment and compliance physicals, and substance abuse testing can bring additional revenue, flatten seasonality and ebb-and-flow, and extend relationships with employers and payers. Bonnie has spent the majority of her nursing experience in urgent care and occupational health. She currently holds instructor certification for evidential breath testing, and urine drug screens. She is certified to complete pulmonary function testing and occupational audiology testing.
